Petition of Rachael Hickson, Dublin, widow of John Hickson, attorney, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting consideration for appointment to a post in new Richmond General Penitentiary, such as matron or housekeeper. Outlines her family's distress since the death of her husband and the murder of her brother by insurgents in 1798 rebellion. Notes that she and her daughters have supported themselves by working in 'a particular branch of needlework which from the change of fashion has been quite unproductive of late'. Petition certified by William Walker, recorder of Dublin city. Annotation of copy of letter of reply from Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, on reverse. |
