SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Letter from J Orr, Angel Inn, St Clements, London, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, 23 January 1819, enclosing copy of letter from Orr to Robert Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh, foreign secretary, referring to execution of Orr's father, the United Irishman William Orr, at Carrickfergus, County Antrim in 1797, and the sufferings of his family since then. Describes the subsequent destruction of their property and possessions by Antrim town yeomanry in 1798. Requests that he and his brother be compensated for the material losses suffered, since they were in no way involved in 'treasonable conspiracies', 18 January 1819. |
