Letter from Thomas R Rogers, chief clerk, 2nd division of police, Arran Quay, Dublin, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting the determination of government on the future accommodation of a child named James Ward, the son of a deceased police watchman [Bryan Ward] who is at present in police custody. States the boy was previously sent to the House of Industry but was refused entry by the governor of that establishment [Lieutenant Colonel George Morris]. Encloses letter from William Abbott, register, House of Industry, Dublin, to the magistrates of the 2nd division of police, rejecting an application for the reception of the boy Ward. Recites as their reason government policy against the ‘admission of Children under any Circumstances’.

Letter from Thomas Popham Luscombe, deputy commissary general, commissary general's office, Dublin, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, reporting that a shipment of copper and silver coin has arrived at the harbour of Kingstown [Dunleary; Dún Laoghaire], County Dublin, via the ship ‘Swan’ under the command of Captain Griffin. Observes, the new money was sent to the Bank of Ireland and in addition, a sum of £57,000 in old Irish currency has been conveyed to the harbour for transportation to England. Request to have the orders of government as to the distribution of the new currency to the city of Cork and other places.

Indicates to complete the labour involved in their enquiry and to establish a number of schools as a practical experiment, they will require an extension of their commission for a period of one year. Also note of instruction [intended for the under secretary or chief clerk in the Chief Secretary’s Office] to send a reply to the commissioners and also a letter to Robert Peel, Secretary of State, London, on the issue of obtaining an extension of contract for the commissioners. Letter from Henry Broome, former major of the 22nd regiment of the light dragoons, 43 Denzille Street, Dublin, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, seeking to secure appointment as master of the riding house at Dublin Castle, following the death of his father [William Broome]. Encloses memorial to Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting permission to succeed his father as riding master at Dublin Castle. Claims his father held the post of master for the past 50 years and his grandfather 'for a considerable Number of years' before that. As to qualifications, he points to a period of 26 years spent in the military service, which includes engagements in the West Indies, Jamaica and India.
