He states as magistrate he presided over the case at the summer assizes of 1824 which resulted in the order for his transportation, but as a man of the cloth he wishes to demonstrate a degree of ‘benevolence’ in the matter.

Letter from James Quin, Manorhamilton, County Leitrim, to Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, complaining he is prevented from setting up stall at the fair of Red Lion in County Cavan [likely Blacklion] and seeking redress. Remarks at the fair on 17th December his tent, from which he intended selling alcoholic liquors, was removed and he personally was subjected to aggravation by the servants of William Nixon. He alleges the fair was instigated by Nixon without patent and claims being in the spirits trade he ‘makes a monopoly of it by force’. Also alleges that Nixon permits unlicensed operators to trade and assemble at the fair.
