Letter from Alderman Richard Smyth, Lieut Col George Morris and Hickman Kearney, Paving House [Corporation for Paving, Cleaning and Lighting the streets of Dublin], [22 Mary Street, Dublin], to Lieutenant Colonel Sir William Gosset, Under Secretary, reporting in response to a complaint that the streets from the Grand Canal at Rathmines to the South Circular Road, Dublin, are not within their area of jurisdiction. Also letter from an inhabitant of Rathmines to Edward Geoffrey Smith Stanley, Chief Secretary, complaining of the accumulation of manure on both sides of the road on then thoroughfare to the Grand Canal and a lack of street lighting. Also letter from an inhabitant of Ranelagh to Gosset protesting over the lack of light on the road in question, a circumstance that almost caused ‘a serious accident’.
