Also letter from Cane, 41 Lower Sackville [O'Connell] Street, Dublin, to Gosset, seeking the situation of hall porter following his departure from the Paving Board; claiming to have given 32 years to the public service and referring to his dismissal from the Paving Board, over which he will accept no blame; also encloses copy certificates from Thomas D’arcy, Francis Macfarland, TN Edgeworth, John Reily and Richard Smyth [mainly in relation to his role as barrack master at Longford and store keeper for the Paving Board]. Also letter from an inhabitant of Rathmines to Edward Geoffrey Smith Stanley, Chief Secretary, complaining of the accumulation of manure on both sides of the road on then thoroughfare to the Grand Canal and a lack of street lighting. Also letter from an inhabitant of Ranelagh to Gosset protesting over the lack of light on the road in question, a circumstance that almost caused ‘a serious accident’. |
