Recollects that her husband, Edward Clarke, made several demonstrations of loyalty and that ‘In the insurrection of 1803 on his return from the Castle (where it was known he went for the purpose of giving most useful information) he was attacked by the insurgents, and so desperately wounded that his life was for a length of time despaired of’; claims that her husband’s business failed and he was unsuccessful in securing a government appointment; and that she owes a year’s head rent to Lord Palmerstown. |

Letter from Dr Edward Trevor, Cork, County Cork, to Chief Secretary’s Office, Dublin Castle, regarding outlay of salary costs in prison establishment of Cork. Discusses custodial arrangements with respect to the county gaol and the convict depot, fees payable to officers for various duties and attendance of medical and spiritual personnel. With respect to use of the depot for detention of prisoners with fever, he declares ‘this indulgence was abused and a great many of different classes were sent to that Prison, even Debtors’. As to access of chaplains, he remarks ‘I desired the Keeper to employ the Curate and Roman Catholic Priest resident in the Parish…which is agreeable to Law with respect to County Prisons’. |
