States that no remuneration is given to physicians except for a grant of ‘£30 a year expressly for Coach Hire’, a figure that has remained unchanged since the hospital opened in 1732; in support for his case he continues: ‘allow me to add that the Numbers received labouring under the contiguous Epidemic of the season, since the 18th of September last, amount to 750, all of whom I can state have been visited daily’. |
