Letter from Thomas Keck, 27 Stephen Street, Dublin, to Robert Peel, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting ‘a situation in any part of the World’. States that as a first priority he would settle for ‘the pension of £30 promised my Mother or even a part on the Concordatum list’. Adds as postscript ‘Consider we are not of this County and are therefore in a savage County (Tipperary) friendless! and penniless!’. Also includes earlier letter to Peel requesting a post of employment or relief for his mother and outlining father’s loyal service during 1798 when ‘he, by his exertions raised two hundred loyalists’ and kept peace in neighborhood.

Petition of Patrick Keating, 21 Back Lane, Dublin, to Robert Peel, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting appointment to a government post. Seeks answer to earlier memorial and declares ‘I dread I will be left Friendless and Unprotected in the Midst of my Enemy’s in this Country’; adds as postscript ‘Late Crown Witness in the Case of Mr Baker of Co. Tipperary’. Also letter to Peel in which Keating states ‘I can have no pretence to attempt living, in this country with Safety to my person’, 30 July 1818; also another petition from Keating asserting that if no position of employment can be provided that he would hope to avail of the ‘Balance Remaining in the Hands of Gover[nmen]t to Enable him to quit this Country and Repair to some other where He may not be known for his future safety’.

Letter from Reverend Michael Kelly, Parish Priest of part of parish of Clonsast, Clonmore, Edenderry, King’s County [Offaly], to Robert Peel, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting alleviation from payment of tax imposed on windows. Complains of being impoverished and due to delicate state of health, feels that use of windows in his habitation is necessary for ‘the free Circulation of air’ and his general well being; testimony added to base by Henry E Joly, Church of Ireland rector of Clonsast, Edenderry, confirms that Kelly has made every effort ‘to preserve the loyalty and Moral demeanor of the Parishioners of Clonsast’. Also includes letter to Peel, acknowledging letter sent in reply, in which Kelly states ‘I will scrupulously observe the Directions therein given’.

Letter from James Redmond Barry, Secretary of Southern Fishery Association, Donoughmore, Clonakelty, County Cork, to Chief Secretary’s office, Dublin Castle, transmitting resolutions of Southern Fishery Association, printed on reverse of letter. The resolutions arising from a meeting of the association held in Kinsale, on 26 October 1818, recommend use of trammel nets for sea fishing and make complaint about the ‘unwarranted and illegal conduct of a certain description of persons, who have in many instances not only cut and destroyed these nets but ill-treated the men employed in using them’.

Alleges he was victim of deception as his property was ‘taken away suddenly by a man who was confided in and entrusted to go to England to purchase goods, but who fled to America with the whole of it’; also complains of subsequent illness and imprisonment. Also note of evaluation on case which states that information supplied by Killikelly is ‘very general and loose’.
