Letter from Laurence Tighe, keeper of bridewell, James Street, Dublin, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, requesting appointment to post of governorship of new bridewell, with supporting claims that offer of post constituted part of an earlier agreement. Stipulates that his transferal to post at new gaol was intended by the magistrate of the police for ‘that they gave me Possession of the Ground that surrounds it which I have Occupied and Cultivated for two years past and have mov’d my Furniture into the Apartment intended for the Governor or Keeper of the New Bridewell with the approbation of Mr [Francis] Johnston the Architect’.
