2 petitions of Joseph Fletcher, Dublin, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, requesting to be allowed to continue in post of gate keeper of Phoenix Park, Dublin, having carried out the job since the death of his mother, who in turn, had been allowed to carry on in the job since the death of her husband. Notes that as a boy he also assisted his mother in the job, thus not receiving a full education, [June 1819]. Also letter from Fletcher to Reverend John C Talbot, private secretary to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, reiterating his request not to be removed from the post, and its premises, 23 August 1819. Annotation of reply by Reverend Talbot states that such government posts are not hereditary in families. Also petition of Fletcher to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, following his removal from post of gate keeper, and requesting consideration for another government post, 31 August 1819. |
