Also note by William Gregory instructing letter to be written to Perceval, asking for details of the individuals in receipt of relief from the grants of money. Also original letter from Perceval, Mullinavat, County Waterford, to Gregory, describing the distress and misery of the poor in parish of Mullinavat since failure of potato crop in 1816, and subsequent outbreak of typhus fever. States that he has been refused the 'gaol allowance' and is starving as a result. Also complains that his wife is not allowed to stay in the jail with him, 27 June 1819. Also letter from Reverend John Graham, Lifford, County Donegal, to Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, responding to claims made in petition of a prisoner in Lifford jail. States that grand jury order states that the allowance cannot be given to any prisoner in receipt of a pension, 6 July 1819. |

Petition of John Grant, formerly sub constable in proclaimed baronies of Kilnamanagh and Eliogarty, County Tipperary, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting sum of money from government to assist him in his trade as a shoemaker, or appointment to another police force, 25 June 1819. Encloses petition of Grant to Edward Wilson, chief police magistrate of baronies of Kilnamanagh and Eliogarty, requesting acceptance of his resignation from post of sub constable, following his fears for his life in relation to a prosecution he was involved in. Petition is certified by Wilson, who writes that he has accepted his resignation, and noting that if Grant remains 'he will be certainly assassinated'. Signed by Wilson, Thurles, County Tipperary, 25 June 1819. |
