Letter from Francis Johnston, Architect's office, Castle yard, Dublin Castle, architect of Board of Works, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, concerning proposed alterations to Cork convict jail, and in particular, plans for solitary cells. Johnston offers opinions on the remarks and suggestions of Francis Murphy, keeper of Cork convict jail, for alterations to the jail, advising that the work be carried out and supervised locally, to save expense of sending builders from Dublin, 19 December 1819. Returns letter of Murphy to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, concerning the plans for the jail. Notes that solitary confinement of convicts would 'tend greatly to prevent mischief, and check the dangerous conduct that has been so frequently practiced by the Convicts', 4 December 1819.

File of papers relating to discussions on possible postponement of County Longford assizes due to virulence of fever epidemic. Includes letter from Sergeant Henry Joy, Omagh, County Tyrone, crown judge and first sergeant of King's Counsel, to William Saurin, St. Stephen's Green, Dublin, Attorney General of Ireland, urging necessity of postponement of Longford assizes, as 'there must be great danger' from fever outbreak, 21 March 1819. Also letter from Joy, Longford, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, urging postponement, and stating 'I should have thought that the anxiety on the part of government would have been to prevent the Assizes from being held until all possibility of danger was over rather than urge the Judges to hold the Assizes contrary to their decided opinion'. Refers to risk to risk of contagion for judges, juries and witnesses, 27 March 1819. Encloses letter from Dr John Moore, Longford, physician to Longford jail, to Reverend Charles Henry Minchin, inspector of Longford jail, reporting on fever amongst prisoners. Attributes the cases to lack of a proper infirmary, conditions within the jails, and poor quality of water, 26 March 1819. Moore includes brief report on sick prisoners in the jail, with names and conditions of each, 24 March 1819.

File of papers relating to request of Frederick Edward Jones for renewal of his patent for Theatre Royal, Dublin. Includes copy of letter from William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, to [William Saurin], Attorney General, concerning Jones' patent and referring to report of Thomas Lefroy and John Sealy Townsend, on problem in relation to joining John Crampton in the patent, 14 August 1819. Also letter from Jones, Clonliffe House, Dublin, to Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, responding to the suggestions made concerning the theatre's future, and urging consideration of 'my property in the Theatre, upon which I and my family depend wholly', and detailing the substantial investments he has made in it. Details the turbulent history of the theatre in recent years, including its fate during 1798 and 1803 rebellions, and the riot there in 1814. Expresses regret that the government wishes to grant the patent to someone else of its own choosing, 10 November 1819.

Letter from commissioners of inquiry, office of inquiry, Dublin, to William Gregory, reporting, as requested by Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, on their inquiry into the accounts of office of clerk of the pleas, Court of Exchequer. Referring to the accounts, states that they 'do not find anything objectionable therein', and recommends payment of salaries of those involved in the accounts, listing each name, their job title, and salary. Letter signed by commissioners of inquiry: Daniel Webb Webber; Bertram Mitford; Thomas P Dickenson; Thomas Staples; and John Doherty, 1 March 1819. Petition of parishioners of Inisloughna [Inislounaght] Abbey and neighbourhood of Clonmel, County Tipperary, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting that Reverend George Miles be recommended to the Bishop of Waterford to be reinstated as their curate, or an alternative living found for him, emphasising his years of service and good character. Petition signed by 11 individuals, including Earl of Glengall; Colonel William Bagwell, of Marlfield, Clonmel, MP for Clonmel, and also certified by Power Le Poer Trench, Church of Ireland Bishop of Elphin, vouching for Miles' conduct.
