States that he has communicated with Richard Guinness, counsel at the head police office, Dublin, on the 'great irregularity and illegality both in the form and substance of the generality of the Committals'. Urges need for them to be executed by magistrates, and not their clerks. Encloses letter he has received in response from the police magistrates at the head police office, signed by their secretary, Charles Tod, 6 November 1819. |

SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Resolutions of committee of the Incorporated Society for Promoting English Protestant Schools in Ireland, concerning the proposals submitted to the society by Reverend Edward Thackeray for establishing training schools for male and female teachers, at general meeting of 3 February 1819. Also the society's approval of plans at an extraordinary meeting, 6 February 1819, and resolving that the proposals be submitted to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary. Committee recommends the formation of 2 teacher training schools, one for male and one for female teachers, assigning the charter school of Santry to the male students, and charter school of Kevin's Street to the female students to be trained. Also details procedures and rules for selecting pupils as candidate teachers; inspections of the schools; and subjects to be taught to candidate teachers. Notes that at the female school, instruction will also be given in 'all sorts of needlework'. Signed by Reverend Dr Thomas Elrington, provost of Trinity College Dublin and chairman of committee. |
