TITLE: |
Weekly report of board of health for Finglas and Glasnevin, County Dublin |
SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Letter from Charles Dalrymple Lindsay, Church of Ireland Bishop of Kildare, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, enclosing weekly report of board of health of Finglas and Glasnevin, Dublin [not present]. He notes that through the 'skilful and indefatigable attention' of Robert Walsh, curate of Finglas and Dr Harty, the number of sick is 'greatly reduced'. Notes that 28 heads of households in Finglas are without employment, and that in Glasnevin the number is much less owing to his own efforts to make work for 'the old and weakly people'. Expresses hope that government aid will be granted, as requested in the report. He adds, 'no one in Finglas holds out a friendly hand, and disease must rage again if not repressed by wholesome food and daily employment'. |
