Letter from George de la Poer Beresford, Church of Ireland Bishop of Kilmore, Kilmore, County Cavan, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting government sanction for release of 6 prisoners, held for minor offences in Cavan jail, whose sentences have expired, but who cannot afford to pay the necessary fees to be released. Notes that it would reduce crowding in the jail and allow the men home to attend to harvest, 29 August 1819. Encloses list containing details of the 6 prisoners in question, 'confined in Cavan Gaol for Fees', including full name, time of trial, amount of fees owed, sentence, and observations, [29 August 1819].
