Petition of inhabitants of Carrick on Shannon, County Leitrim, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting that he gives orders to local magistrates to prevent a proposed orange procession on 12 July by Leitrim Orangemen. Petitioners fear that such 'unlawful proceedings' will disrupt the peace of the area, which has for many years remained undisturbed, 'in consequence of the Orange Lodges being prevented from walking'.

SCOPE & CONTENT:

Letter from Henry Edward Lynch, Cloher [Clogher] House, Ballyglass, County Mayo, magistrate for County Mayo, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting to know if John Beatty was executed at last assizes in Ennis, County Clare, for sheep stealing. Lynch states that he pursued a similar conviction against Beatty in 1817, for stealing sheep from his County Galway estates, and wishes to know if he can claim to recover the value of those losses, 17 July 1819. Encloses statement signed by P Curtin, Ennis, stating that sufficient evidence exists against Beatty to try him in Galway for the theft of Lynch's sheep, should he be acquitted at Ennis, 2 March 1819.
