File of papers relating to conduct of Reverend James Moore of Prussia Street, Dublin, and to Dublin Castle's inquiry into his character, in connection to his applications for government assistance for his family. Includes letter from Meredith Lewis Montfort, clerk, stamp office, Dublin, to Alexander Mangin, Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, informing him that Moore, a clergyman of much talent, is now 'addicted to Drink, in which state he unmercifully beats his wife' and referring to his many debts and indolent habits. Urges that government assist suffering of his wife and children, 24 August 1819. Also anonymous letter from 'An inhabitant of Prussia street, who has witnessed the conduct' of Reverend Moore, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, accusing Moore of infamous conduct and 'drunken frolicks', and stating that Moore's youngest daughter 'committed Fornication often', 3 September 1819. |
