Letter from Daniel O'Donoghue, Trallie Lodge, County Dublin, (also stating an address at 29 Lower Gardiner Street, Dublin), chief magistrate of police for County Dublin, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, concerning violence which occurred within his jurisdiction, in parish of Garristown, County Dublin. Describes how group of individuals from parish of Ardcath, County Meath, levelled enclosures which had recently been made on Mr Alexander's estate, Garristown. Also subsequent threats of an armed mob of men and women towards men employed on Alexander's land to prevent trespassing. Requests to know if he has authority to search for firearms in suspected places, as he fears that the area 'abounds with Arms'. |

File of papers relating to request of Francis O'Beirne, clerk of quit rents, and son of Thomas Lewis O'Beirne, Church of Ireland Bishop of Meath, for an extension to his leave of absence, because of his continued imprisonment for debts owed. Includes letter from Francis O'Beirne, King's Bench, Dublin, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting extension to his leave of absence and referring to the 'humiliating situation ' of his imprisonment as a debtor, 26 April 1819. Also letter from Bishop of Meath to Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, on behalf of his son, requesting extension to leave of absence be granted, and explaining reasons why his son has yet to be released. 'The debt was for a Carriage for my son's wretched Wife just at the time of her dishonouring him..'. States that he has borrowed money to assist his son, 3 May 1819. Also copy of letter of reply from William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, to Bishop of Meath, 5 May 1819. |
