Also copy of letter from Capt J Smith, Royal Artillery, Buncrana, [County Donegal], to Bainbrigge, Armagh, reporting on his inspection of a potential barracks in Buncrana together with Rev Hamilton Stewart of that town; adding that Michael Doherty of Glen House, Clonmony informed him that 5000 individuals came to his house and demanded the return of tithes and reduction of rent and that the house of Thomas Baldrick was attacked. Letter from anonymous sender, signed ‘A friend to Humanity’, to William Gosset, [Under Secretary], claiming that cholera or some other violent disease has appeared in Kilmarnock, Scotland and advising government to place a quarantine on all vessels arriving from Scotland. Also letter from William Fausset, Provost of Sligo, Sligo, to Gosset, noting that cholera is reported in Glasgow and questioning what measures have been taken on vessels coming from Clyde. Also memorandum entitled ‘Quarantine on vessels from Glasgow’, noting that Privy Council has recommended that all ships from Glasgow and the Clyde be placed in protective quarantine.
