Letter from Anthony Perrier, Lord Mayor of Cork city, Mansion House, Cork, County Cork, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, expressing his objections to the bill before parliament for the abolition of the Public Coal Yards of Cork city - 'a measure so replete with injury to the numerous Poor of this large city'. Emphasises importance of the yard in providing 'this necessity of life' to the poor at times of fluctuating coal prices and supplies, stating that 60,000 were assisted by it in the previous winter, 8 June 1821. Annotation on reverse, of copy of letter of reply from Grant to Perrier, 10 July 1821. |
