Urges that Reverend John Bridge is not appointed, as his 'continuing to hold the appointment of the Tythe [sic] Proctor, contrary to an almost unanimous expression of disapprobation from the Synod, in connection with his general character, has convinced the Synod that he would do almost anything for money'.

Letter from Reverend John Bridge, Gosson's Hotel, Bolton street, Dublin, to Sir George Fitzgerald Hill, MP for Londonderry city, concerning the outcome of the meeting of the Presbyterian Seceding Synod, to nominate candidates to be presented to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, for post of regium donum agent for the ministers of the Presbyterian Seceding Synod. States that Bridge was the only minister nominated to go forward, and requests that Hill objects to the other lay candidates. In particular, to oppose the appointment of the brothers John and William Weir.

File of papers relating to request of Reverend John Bridge to be appointed regium donum agent for the ministers of the Presbyterian Seceding Synod and support for Bridge's candidacy from Du Pré Alexander, 2nd earl of Caledon, Caledon, County Tyrone. Includes letter from Caledon to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, 2 February 1821, enclosing letter from Bridge to Caledon, detailing the canvassing of votes within the Synod, by prospective candidates. Urges that the elders are not included in the vote, as they will inevitably select a lay person rather than a minister. Urges Caledon to intervene and recommend Bridge for the appointment, 30 January 1830. Also petition of Bridge, Dublin, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, commenting that Reverend Thomas Millar, moderator of the Seceding Synod, is brother-in-law to the Weir brothers, who are candidates, 13 March 1821. Also includes several testimonies in support of Bridge.
