Letter from Lieutenant A Boyle, Rathfriland, County Down, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, concerning a recent procession of Ribbonmen on 17th March in Rathfriland area and enclosing a list of the names of those involved in the parade, 26 March 1821. Boyle also refers to the regular gatherings of Ribbonmen in the area, and to some of their slogans, including, 'To Hell with Castlereah [Castlereagh]' and 'Kindle Bushe', [probably an allusion to Charles Kendal Bushe, Solicitor General for Ireland]. Also letter from Boyle to Gregory, providing a list of names [possibly witnesses to the recent proceedings], 3 April 1821. |
