Letter from David Aher, 24 Aungier Street, Dublin, civil engineer, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting appointment as a civil engineer directing public works schemes for the employment of the poor, 2 July 1822; encloses letter from Major Alexander Taylor, Mespil, Dublin, engineer and a commissioner for paving, cleansing and lighting Dublin, to Aher, referring to Aher's good conduct when employed by the Grand Canal company, and later as an engineer involved in the drainage of Irish bogs, 1 July 1822; also encloses a resolution passed at a meeting of the directors of the Grand Canal company, 29 March 1806, stating their thanks to Aher for the 'propriety of his conduct', signed by Daniel Bagot, secretary to Grand Canal company. Also letter from Lord Ormonde to [Gregory], offering his recommendation to Aher's application, and requesting that he be granted an interview at Dublin Castle, 26 June 1822. |
