Letter from Peter La Touche junior, Dr George Renny, Thomas Popham Luscombe, and Dr William Disney, commissioners for poor relief, Dublin Castle, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting use of old military blankets for the use of the fever poor in County Galway, 3 September 1822. Encloses, in support of their request, copy extract of letter from Archbishop of Tuam to the commissioners, reporting on the 'alarming' spread of disease in County Galway, and lack of funds; dead paupers 'are buried without coffins', and the hospital is 'full', 31 August 1822; also encloses copy of letter from Dr Thomas L Whistler, Galway, to Dr Renny, emphasising the prevalence of fever in the county, particularly in Galway city and Connemara, and requesting additional funds for fever relief, 1 September 1822. Also copy of letter from Dr Renny, Dublin Castle, to Dr Whistler, stating government's intention to forward a sum of £500 for relief of the poor, 3 September 1822. |
