Includes return of all sums payable by dwelling houses in Dublin city, to the commissioners, under the paving act, from 1 January 1815-5 January 1821. Includes details of amounts due, and amounts actually received, stating the amount of arrears owed for each year. Original return signed by William Little, secretary to commissioners, Dublin, 2 March 1821. File of papers concerning the expenses of the commissioners for inquiring into crown lands in Ireland for 1820, 1821 and 1822. Includes copies of accounts of expenses incurred by the commissioners for salaries, stationery supplies and fees owed to the solicitor for crown lands, and in particular, for fees for carrying out searches in various government offices between 1820 and 1822. For instance, in the rolls' office in Court of Chancery, and in the chief remembrancer's office of the Court of Exchequer, for various deeds, mortgages and leases relating to crown lands. Accounts for searches certified by Thomas Ball, verifying the amount of tax charged on each account, 13 December 1822. Also letter from Henry Harding, Auditor General's Office, Dublin, clerk of the records, to the commissioners for crown lands, 9 October 1822, enclosing account of fees owed to Auditor General's Office for various searches, June 1821-October 1822.

Jordan emphasises that such magisterial misconduct has been the chief cause of the recent disturbances and recommends that these men be removed from their posts. Also highlights the good and 'moral' conduct of 3 other local magistrates, Denis Browne MP, John Nolan and Mr Strickland of Loughglin House.

File of papers concerning complaints of William H Bourne's Limerick mail coach company, respecting poor state of Limerick to Dublin mail coach road. Includes petition of grand jury of Limerick city, to Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, and similar petition from the grand jury of County Limerick, concerning the complaints respecting the poor state of bridges and ditches on the mail coach road; in particular, its impact on the mail coach service following the recent beneficial increase in the speed of the service. Urges need to make the roads safe by repairing and widening the bridges and by filling and fencing the ditches. Limerick city's petition signed on behalf of the grand jury by J Vereker, foreman, 4 August 1822; and Limerick county's petition signed by William Thomas Monsell, foreman, 4 August 1822.

SCOPE & CONTENT:

Letter from Robert Paul, Bridewell Bridge, Bristol, England, to Robert Peel, Secretary of State for Home Department, London, recommending the introduction of legislation to regulate pawnbroker charges in Ireland, similar to that in existence in England. Notes that in Dublin, around 80 pawnbrokers 'together employ a capital of at least, two hundred thousand pounds, and by consequence, this traffic in small loans must cost the poor of that city, not less than a hundred thousand pounds per annum'. [Letter presumably forwarded by Peel to the Irish executive at Dublin Castle].

Bell encloses copy of a letter from Major General Charles Imhoff, Guernsey, to Bell, Jersey, verifying Bell's good conduct during his service with the 4th garrison battalion, originally dated 26 September 1814.
