Petition of John Reed, Galway, County Galway, to Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting government employment. Details his family's distress following the death of his father, Andrew Reed, a church warden for the parish of St. Nicholas, Galway town. States that his father died of typhus fever, caught whilst working as a census enumerator, amongst 'the diseased and wretched' part of the population of his district. Petition certified and signed by James Daly, warden; Reverend H Morgan, vicar; and John Darcy and William French, church wardens of parish of St. Nicholas; also signed by the corporation of Galway, including James Hardiman Burke, mayor of Galway; James O'Hara junior, recorder; Matthew Thomas Smyth and William Smyth, sheriffs of Galway town; and John O'Shaughnessy, attorney.
