Petition of Michael Hanlon, 62 Henry Street, Dublin, book binder, to Edward I Johnston, private secretary to Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, concerning the robbery of his home by 2 men and a woman, 2 of whom were subsequently recognised and arrested. Complains of the conduct of Alderman John Cash, police magistrate of 5th division of Dublin police, Marlborough Street, Dublin, 'who let the Prisoners go taking their Names and address to appear next day - of course they did not come'. Also complains that he has failed to seek redress of his grievance from the magistrates of the head police office [petition received at Dublin Castle, 28 January 1823]. Also letter from Frederick Darley, John C Graves, and Henry Charles Sirr, police magistrates, head police office, Dublin, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, responding, as requested, concerning Hanlon's petition, and stating that Cash's ill health has delayed their further inquiry of the matter, 10 February 1823. Encloses copy of letter from Alexander Anderson, chief clerk of 5th division, on behalf of Cash, to head police office, in response to Hanlon's initial complaint, 4 December 1822. |
