Letter from [J] David Latouche, William Disney, [Maj] BB Woodward and George Renny, [Commissioners for the Erection and Control of Lunatic Asylums], Office, 5 Parliament Road, Dublin, to Lieutenant Colonel Sir William Gosset, Under Secretary, stating their opposition to an application for a new lunatic asylum at Clonmel [County Tipperary] intended to cater for patients coming from the county of Tipperary and the city of Waterford; stating they would only entertain such a proposal if a joint memorial was presented by the inhabitants of both constituencies. Also memorial of the governors of the House of Industry and lunatic asylum of County Tipperary to Henry William Paget, Lord Lieutenant, requesting sanction for the erection of a new lunatic asylum at Clonmel; explaining that the proposed facility at Maryboro [Maryborough; Portlaoise], Queen’s County [County Laois], is very distant from many parts of Tipperary and would be very inconvenient to those needing to travel.
