Letter from Maj William Miller, [Inspector General of Police in Munster], Fermoy, [County Cork], to Lieutenant Colonel Sir William Gosset, Under Secretary, reporting on the case of Cain Irving, sub-constable, Borrisoleigh, [County Tipperary], whom he recommends be dismissed from the police for unbecoming behaviour; explaining that Irving was charged to guard the residence of Rev [William] Lees at Mealiffe Glebe, which had previously came under attack, but entered one of the sheds attached to that place and milked a cow, and being interrupted by a calf, administrated a fatal blow to the latter creature. |

Also letter from Groome to Edward Geoffrey Smith Stanley, Chief Secretary, protesting over the poor state of the canal at Ballinasloe and the excessive toll charges thereon; complaining the canal is not of adequate depth nor in proper shape to allow the safe passage or accommodation of laden boats. |
