Includes letter from Margaret Field, 22 Mary Street, Dublin, to Edward I Johnston, private secretary to Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, on behalf of her brother, Charles, and emphasising the promise of former Chief Secretary, Charles Grant, prior to his departure from Ireland, to remove Field to a better situation; also emphasising the 'horrors' of life as a stamper for a well educated young man, 12 April 1823. Encloses petition of Charles Field, to Wellesley, detailing his case and requesting promotion to post of junior clerk in stamp office, 12 April, and attaching copies of 2 letters of recommendation from William Gore, John Trench and William Glascock, commissioners of stamps, 18 October 1821, and from Richard Thacker, teller of stamps, 16 October 1821. Margaret Field also encloses a letter of reply received from Charles Grant, London, concerning her brother's case, 7 April 1823.
