Petition of John Byrne, Newtown, Bridgeafane, County Louth, stone mason, to Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, complaining of conduct of George Forster, magistrate, alleging that he deliberately foiled the prosecution of robbers, in order to avoid paying a reward to which he had subscribed. Byrne details his involvement in apprehending one of those responsible, and therefore, his claims on the reward, 21 February 1823. Also damp press copy of letter of reply from Gregory to Byrne, 10 March 1823; and subsequent petition from Byrne to Wellesley, reiterating his complaints against Forster, 20 March 1823. |
