Letter from Admiral Robert Dudley Oliver, Dublin, to Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, concerning the offer of employment as inspector of the convict hulk at Cove, County Cork, to Mr [Samuel] Hollingsworth, and stating that Hollingsworth would much prefer the post of governor of the House of Industry, Dublin, which may soon be vacant; recommends his case. Letter contains subsequent pencil annotation in hand of William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, concerning the opinion of Major James Palmer, former governor of the House of Industry, on Hollingsworth's suitability for the post. SCOPE & CONTENT:

Letter from M Ferstandig, Dublin, professor of oriental languages, to Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, complaining of the persecution against him in both Belfast and Dublin: in Belfast, where he was imprisoned, 'for lecturing on the mistranslation of the bible from the original Hebrew and Greek'; and in Dublin, branded an 'Infidel' by the professors and teachers at Trinity College. Requests assistance either for reinstatement to post of professor of oriental languages, or for passage to London, 7 April 1823. Also note by Major Henry Charles Sirr, chief police magistrate, Dublin, to Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, stating that Ferstandig is 'considered an Infidel' and 'therefore unfit for having connection with the college [Trinity]', 9 April 1823.
