Petition of George Duffy, late police constable, Newcastle West, County Limerick, to Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, seeking an investigation of circumstances which led to the wounding of John Lee and his own dismissal from the police. Claims he intervened in an argument between [constable] Cleary and Lee [landlord] at the barracks at Ballyshane, and in the struggle Cleary’s carbine [gun] went off and hit Lee in the arm; as a result of the injury Lee's arm required amputation. Insists he did not receive fair consideration prior to dismissal and refers to his loyal service in the police establishment of Limerick. |

Petition from the gentlemen resident on the banks of the lower River Shannon, County Limerick, to Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting that police aid be refused to Mr Kelly as he allegedly used force to destroy the property of several local persons in an unjust enforcement of the fishery laws. Mentions an application published in Limerick newspapers seeking police aid for Kelly, but denounces him as ‘a self appointed Inspector subject to no official control’. Emphasises the fishing rights of property owners resident along the river and proposes an assimilation of Irish fishing laws with those of England and Scotland. Points out that a young curate has been lately appointed to the union on the same salary as Porter, despite the latter having more than 30 years experience in the church and a wife and family to support. |

Letter from Major Thomas Powell, Corkagh, Rathcoole, County Dublin, inspector general of the Leinster constabulary, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary of Ireland, reporting that police constable Abraham Wardlesworth has been suspended from duty on account of his being intoxicated while on duty. Recommends Wardlesworth be dismissed the force since the County Westmeath constabulary have seen in recent times a number of ‘disgraceful’ incidents involving police personnel which ‘call for most severe examples’, 8 December 1824. Returns decision of magistrates of Mullingar, County Westmeath, indicating that Wardlesworth is found guilty of being drunk in the town of Mullingar on the night of 11 November 1824 and imposing a fine of 20 shillings to be deducted from his salary, 18 November 1824; signed by John Charles Lyons, chairman. |

Returns memorial from Kane, Newport, County Tipperary, to Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, complaining of unlawful confiscation of his arms and of refusal of the chief constable to give them up. Notes the nature of the arms which include a blunderbuss and a powder horn and states they were purchased by auction on Sackville [O’Connell] Street, Dublin. |

States her husband George Dunn, was employed in the military accounts office, Dublin, for a period of near 23 years, and died following a deterioration of health. Observes should reference be made to the military accounts office, an appropriate report of her husband’s labours will be forthcoming, which will provide evidence of the validity of her claim to aid for herself and her only child. With annotation overleaf from CSO indicating that funds at the disposal of the Lord Lieutenant are ‘too limited’ to extend to such an application. |

Refers to financial hardship that followed the death of her husband, Reverent John Graves, in April 1822. Remarks his fiscal affairs were left in a poor state, his property being encumbered with debt. Also letter from Dr Stopford to Graves expressing opinion that her memorial is unlikely to produce a positive reaction since only those who are ‘destitute of friends’ are eligible for aid; observes that Mrs Graves, who has ‘respectable connections’ does not fall into this category.
