Letter from Richard Willcocks, inspector general of police, Cashel, County Tipperary, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary of Ireland, reporting that charges preferred by Eusebius McGillycuddy Jr against Mr Thompson, chief constable of police, barony of Dunkerrin, County Kerry, are ‘frivolous, groundless, and malicious’. Remarks that the accuser McGillycuddy is ‘one of the worst Characters in the County of Kerry’, a military deserter, vagrant, and ‘wholly undeserving of attention, or credit, in any instance whatsoever’. Returns letter from McGillycuddy, Milltown, County Kerry, to Goulburn, alleging that Thompson failed to execute a capias writ against a man for murder, that he is inattentive to duty ‘being allways [sic] employed in either hunting or fishing’, that he lent police horses for use of local huntsmen and permits his constables to engage in night time fishing with nets. |
