Petition of James Moody, 23 South King Street, Dublin, to Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, complaining of the conduct of Robert Sandys, magistrate, whom he states committed him to Wicklow Gaol ‘for the smallest alledged [sic] offence’ and failed to render him fair justice; also claims to have served in the yeomanry of Bray, County Wicklow, and was employed as chief butler to the Archbishop of Dublin and other noblemen. Includes letter from Sandys, Dargle Cottage, County Wicklow, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, detailing a list of separate charges brought by the court against Moody, including a case of ‘Violent Assault’, a ‘brutal’ attack on his wife, an attack on ‘Clifton’ and another on Thomas Cooney. He observes ‘Representations on this Subject have been addressed to the Governments of Spain and Portugal, but that owing probably, to the state of Public affairs in those countries, these Representations have not hitherto produced the desired effect’. Letter from John Killaly, engineer, Ennis, County Clare, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, indicating that further information was sought upon a plan and estimate provided by Lady Catherine Osborne for a proposed road to the slate quarries near Clonmel, in County Tipperary. Also letter from Osborne, Newtown Anner, County Tipperary, to Gregory, discussing plans for new line to the quarry for which she seeks aid from the Consolidated Fund; she refers to the necessity of having the estimate altered and submitted to the grand jury of County Waterford and seeks a prompt advance of funds.
