Letter from Chamberlain William Walker, secretary, Commissioners of Education, Board of Education, 8 Molesworth Street, Dublin, to Colonel William Bagwell, [MP for Clonmel], offering observation on a legal difficulty over the security of the proposed site for a school on the lands of Burgagery [or Burgage] near Clonmel in County Tipperary. He suggests the attachment of a rider to a parliamentary bill in order to circumvent the difficulty, which is also present on the lands of Tullivin [Tullyvin] in County Cavan. He states ‘We are bold to assert that a temple of learning is as sacred in its nature, as a Martello Tower or a Bridewell’.
