Letter from Alexander Nimmo, Dublin, civil engineer overseeing public works in the western district, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, indicating a further advance of £5,000 to the Bank of Ireland is required to carry forward the works in his jurisdiction. Remarks this is an appropriate season for making the presentments and observes he is awaiting some estimates from the country, but hopes to have ‘the whole complete in a few days’. Also note in response from CSO [with observation from Goulburn] acknowledging Nimmo’ s call for funds, but observing that the money in question should not be for work intending to be carried out over the period 1825-26, as this requires parliamentary sanction. |

Letter from Reverend Isham Baggs, Church of Ireland clergyman, 18 Frederick Street North, Dublin, to Lieutenant Colonel Meyrick Shawe, private secretary to Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, enclosing a memorial to Wellesley seeking appointment to any vacant diocesan school in Ireland. Emphasises his 34 years standing in the established church and claims to have been master of a classical school in Navan, County Meath, for a number of years, and also to have kept a similar institution in Georges Place, Dublin. Complains of distress felt by himself, his wife and 9 children, due to financial difficulties. Memorial attested by Thomas Kingsbury, archdeacon of Killala, [County Mayo] and 6 other ecclesiastical persons. Annotation in pencil on back of letter in hand of Wellesley, advises checking his references with the Archbishop of Tuam [Power Le Poer Trench] and the Bishop of Clonfert [Christopher Butson]. |

Letter from Lieutenant General Quin John Freeman and Robert Gregory, commissioners of Board of Works, Dublin, to Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, reporting that a plan and estimate offered by William Hunt, architect, for erection of a bridewell in the town of Kilrush, County Clare, is deemed ‘most eligible’ for the task in hand. Encloses copy letter from Francis Johnston, architect and inspector of civil buildings, Architect's Office, Dublin Castle, to Robert Robinson, assistant secretary, Board of Works, indicating that himself and Major Benjamin Blake Woodward, inspector general of prisons of the southern district, made an examination of two proposals from architects interested in contracting for building the jail. Upon joint deliberation it was agreed that Hunt’s proposal was most acceptable. |

Copy petition of Bridget Donovan [alias O’Connor], Charleville, County Cork, to Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting aid of government to take herself and family to the United States of America. Claims to have acted on behalf of the crown in the prosecution of 12 Ribbonman indicted in the murder of James Culreavy [Colreavy] of the parish of Aughamore [Aghamore], near Culm Kill [Collumkill], in County Longford, in the month of August 1815. Declares as a result of her testimony, Joseph Connell, Oliver Wallace, Thomas McGarry, and James Jordan, were found guilty and hanged in the town of Longford; she also assisted in the later trial of Thomas Armstrong and John McOwen, who were also found guilty and executed for the same offence. Complains for her trouble she has paid merely £80, and ever since has been subjected to harassment by the public on account of her service to government. |
