Letters from [William Hare], Viscount Ennismore, Tralee, to William Gregory, Under Secretary and Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, complaining of disturbances in Tralee and the surrounding countryside during the elections; requesting that assistance be given to the high sheriff and that cavalry be used to escort freeholders on their way to vote; claiming that his freeholders have been attacked and that he and his family cannot leave their lodgings; blaming the supporters of Col Crosbie and John O’Connell; stating that six ringleaders were shot by the military following an attack on Lord Ventry’s freeholders. Including annotation from Richard Wellesley recommending that Maj Willcocks travel from Waterford to Tralee and seeing no objection to the stationing of a large force in the town.

Includes letter from David Fitzgerald, Tralee, [County Kerry], to William Gregory, Under Secretary, transmitting sworn affidavits against both men. Also affidavit of John Moore, Maurice Langan, John Brick, Henry Barrett, Owen Cournane, Michael Counihan, James Fitzgerald, Robert Stephens, all of Tralee, providing eyewitness accounts of the incident and claiming that Rowan gave the order to fire on the crowd and was assisted by Mullins and John Hickson. File of documents concerning the violent attack made on Edmund Fitzgibbon of Knightsgrove, [County Limerick] and subsequent dispute over the granting of bail to the accused, namely Timothy Sheedy, Michael Sheedy and John Walsh. Includes letters form Eyre Evans, Ash Hill, Killmallock, [County Limerick], to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, seeking advice on the bailing or re-arresting of the accused and noting that a scarcity of magistrates is hindering his work. Also affidavit of Edmond Fitzgibbon, farmer, Knightsgrove, claiming that he was attacked by four men when attempting to enter the public house of Michael Sheedy, publican in Kilmallock, [County Limerick]. Also memorial of Cornelius Fitzgibbon, noting that those accused of attacking his brother, Edmund, have been bailed by Samuel Bennett, magistrate, despite advice to the contrary. Also annotation recommending that Evans examine the surgeon and then issue a warrant for the rearrest of the accused.
