Letter from Dr Edward Trevor, [superintendent and medical inspector of convicts], Dublin, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, informing him that Mr Lane was employed by Mr Murphy, keeper of the penitentiary house and hulks in Cork, to transmit money to the treasury for the payment of the institution’s accounts, but that Mr Lane was subsequently ‘embarrassed’ and the task taken over by his son, who charged a fee of ¼ per cent for the service. States he does not know this young man, but states that if the Lord Lieutenant [Richard Wellesley] approves, he will arrange for the transfer of the money. |
