Letter from Thomas [Philips] Vokes, [chief magistrate of police], Limerick, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, returning petition of Mary and Judith Hourigan, [Limerick], to [Richard] Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, stating that they have served as crown witnesses since 11 December 1824 when they offered information on a murder case at Bilboa, Limerick; claiming that they had lost friends and support as a result; and seeking his intervention in recovering payment [of their allowance] owed to them by Vokes. Vokes claims that the allowance granted to them is sufficient, and ‘these petitioners… of the lowest working class’ had been enticed into submitting the petition by a man who had promised to secure them an increase in their allowance. |
