Includes letter from: John Johnston, Enniskillen, [County Fermanagh], to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, stating he knows nothing of Campbell’s case, and referring him to Sir John Maginness of Londonderry [Derry], who tried Campbell as a vagrant and convicted him; Goulburn to Justice Richard Jebb, Fourth Justice of the Court of the King’s Bench], indicating that Campbell has been sentenced to transportation, and enquiring if he is ‘a proper object of Mercy by admitting him to Bail’; Jebb, Spring [], Newtownmountkennedy, [County Wicklow], to Goulburn, stating that the procedure states that if prisoners cannot procure bail within 6 months, they will be transported, but that nonetheless, he feels Campbell could be granted bail; and from John Galbraith, acting crown solicitor, Londonderry, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, recommending bail for William King, also convicted of vagrancy and confined at Derry Gaol, with annotations by Richard Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, and Henry Joy, Attorney General. |

Contains certificate signed by Tyrrell, testifying to his character. Also: note by Frederick [?Bournes], Newgate, stating ‘received a respite for Byran Murphy until further order’; and letter from Judge William Johnston [or Johnson], to Gregory, recommending ‘his Excellency’s clemency’, with annotation by Wellesley stating ‘Granted respite’. |
