File of papers relating to pension granted to Lord Gifford [Robert Gifford, 1st Baron Gifford], and application by his wife, Harriet Maria Gifford [nee Drewe], and children for continuance of same following his death [in 1826]. Includes letter from Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Irish Office, London, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, enquiring as to the possibility of a pension for Deborah Welch, ‘the old blind maid at the Park. I should not like to leave her to the mercy of a successor upon whom she could have little comparative claim’. Requests he also communicate to the Lord Lieutenant [Richard Wellesley] the official recommendation of Lord Liverpool [Robert Jenkinson, 2nd Earl Liverpool] relating to Gifford’s pension, with annotation by Wellesley. Also includes: copy of King’s Warrant granting Gifford a [English] pension of £1026 per annum as of 5 January 1827, with covering note by Wellesley, and initialled by Gregory; letter from Sir Charles [William] Flint, Resident Secretary, Irish Office, London, to Gregory, enclosing 2 notes, one from Letter from William Hill [Principal clerk of the Commissariat Department, and Agent for Commissariat Supplies], Treasury Chambers, [London], indicating Gifford was granted an Irish pension of £200 net per annum; and letter from Hill to the lords of the treasury, recommending the continuation of Gifford’s [Irish] pension of £200 per annum to be benefit of his survivors, including Robert Francis Gifford [2nd Baron Gifford].
