Letter from Thomas Spring Rice [1st Baron Monteagle of Brandon], Under Secretary, Whitehall, [London], to William Lamb, Chief Secretary, stating that in light of recent enquiry into the state of ‘pauper Lunatics’ in England and Wales, the Marquis of Lansdowne [Henry Petty Fitzmaurice, 3rd Marquis Lansdowne] requests copies of the rules and regulations established by various acts of parliament for the management of lunatic asylums, namely: the Lunacy (Ireland) Act, 1821; the Lunatic Asylums Act, 1825; and the Lunacy (Ireland) Act, 1826. Also requests a statement of the number of asylums in Ireland, the expenses of building same, expenditure accounts and copies of all related reports, such as those outlining patient numbers.
