SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Two copies of letter from William Taylor, Mespil, Dublin, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, informing him of the ill health of his uncle, Maj [Alexander] Taylor, now aged 81 years, who was reprimanded by the Lord Lieutenant, [Richard Wellesley], for his conduct years previously as a Commissioner of the Paving Board, and stating that ‘in the transactions with which he has been implicated he neither sought not obtained any pecuniary benefit’. Annotation on reverse from Goulburn asking William Gregory, Under Secretary, to bring the letter to the attention of Wellesley. Also annotation signed by Wellesley, stating that the situation was ‘painful… but I fear that I have already erred in that direction’. Also 2 draft letters of reply to Maj Taylor and Mr O’Reilly. |
