Letter from Mr Fitzgerald, Deputy Governor of County Carlow, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, seeking relief for the poor of the parishes of Kiltennel and Clonegoose, and reporting a state of famine in the area. Also covering note by Gregory, stating that he met with [Thomas] Kavanagh [Governor of County Carlow], who was shocked at Fitzgerald’s claims and stated that no such poverty or famine prevailed in the parishes mentioned. Indicates that Fitzgerald’s property was for sale in the area, and is currently in the process of being purchased by Lord Beresford. Annotation signed by Richard Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, stating that in light of this information, ‘the object of this letter is made very clear’.

States that the survey of the southern part of Antrim has been completed, and that he would remove his officers to County Armagh until the northern boundaries are finalised.
