Letter from Dr Edward Trevor, [superintendent and medical inspector of convicts], [Dublin], to unknown recipient, referring to enclosed memorial of Dennis Clifford, formerly an officer of Cork City Gaol to Richard Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant. Memorial refers to annexed statement of abuses in the gaol. Trevor questions why Clifford did not bring the alleged abuses to light before his dismissal, but recommends that they be nonetheless referred to the Board of Superintendence of the Prison.

Subsequent letter from O’Donoghue, 4 Great Portland Street, Cavendish Square, London, to Gregory, informing him that he has been detained in London, and requesting an extension of his leave until 3 June 1827. Both annotated ‘granted’ by Richard Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant.

Informs Gregory that Doolan is Connolly’s son in law, and states that this transfer would contradict the rule directing the chief constables cannot be stationed in the same neighbourhood as their friends or relatives.
