Representation of the Commissioners of the Board of Works, [Maj Gen Quin John] Freeman and Henry Singleton, to Richard Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, enclosing memorial of John Quin, 13 Great Ship Street, Dublin, to Wellesley, requesting that the board pay him a sum of money owed to their recently deceased employee, William Wilson of 13½ Great Ship Street, who he claimed owed him £3 18s 0d for lodgings. State that the total amount owed by the board to Wilson was £5 10s 5d, and recommend that this amount be awarded to Quin, as well as a woman named Esther Craig, who also claimed to be owed 9s by Wilson.

Barker states that Abbott and Cuming are entitled to an allowance of £60 per annum each, to be paid from 20 June 1826, ‘to be continued so long as additional beds for the accommodation of fever patients are maintained at the expense of Government in the Hospitals attached to the House of Industry.’

SCOPE & CONTENT:

Letter from Dr Francis Barker, secretary, General Board of Health, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, informing him that Kevin Street Hospital, Steeven’s Hospital, and the New Whitworth Hospital in Drumcrondra discontinued the admittance of fever patients from 24 May 1827, and that the salaries of all staff should also be discontinued from that day. Also states that the board feels that the inspectors should continue their duties until the end of next quarter, or 4 July 1827, when their salaries will also cease. Contains names of 7 doctors across the 3 hospitals, as well as the names of 9 inspectors. Covering note provides further information on the salaries of staff at each of the 3 hospitals, as well as the salaries of the inspectors. Additional letter from Henry William Hardy, register, Kevin Street Fever Hospital, to Gregory, informing him that the hospital will require a further grant of £350 to discharge its debts.
