Letter from Henry Bruen, MP for County Carlow, offering recommendation for Reverend John Hardy to succeed as rector to the parish of Kilcullen, in County Kildare |
SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Letter from Henry Bruen, MP for County Carlow, Oak Park, County Carlow, to the Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, offering his recommendation for the succession of Reverend John Hardy to the vacancy as rector to the Church of Ireland parish of Kilcullen, in County Kildare. Observes the living has an income not greater that £300 per annum and is held by the present occupant under Reverend Thomas Brownrigg, chancellor of Christ Church, Dublin. Points out that Hardy is curate to the parish and a loyal and ‘meritorious individual’ who previously held the post of chaplain to Spike Island in County Cork. Recall his father, a past clergyman of Hackettstown in County Carlow, lost his life on an attack on that place in the 1798 Rebellion, and had his property ‘severely injured’ in the process. Also copy reply from the CSO indicating as the position of rector of Kilcullen is not yet vacant, a decision as to its disposal cannot be taken by the Lord Lieutenant. |

Letter from RW Clark, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, Scotland, recommending a statistical survey of Ireland and requesting appointment as surveyor |
SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Letter from RW Clark, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, Scotland, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, recommending a statistical survey be made of the different counties of Ireland with a view to ascertaining capacity for agriculture and manufacturing development, and requesting appointment as surveyor. Adds he has received a commendation from Francis Jeffrey, legal advocate, reflecting favourably on his personal and professional character. Also with copy reply indicating that no funds are available for the survey suggested and stating the Lord Lieutenant cannot hold out hope of future employment. |
