Petition of Thomas Keck, Office Keeper of the Chief Secretary’s Office, to [Richard Wellesley], Lord Lieutenant, seeking payment of the 10 enclosed accounts to the total of £1078 3s 9½d for articles supplied to the apartments of the Chief Secretary and Under Secretary; the offices of the Lord Lieutenant and the Chief Secretary; and the Tower, for the quarter 6 April to 5 July 1827. Includes accounts from: the civil office, for disbursements; T Cumberland, for expenses; T Hand, for coals and charcoal; James Leedom, for candles; Henry Rathborne, for wax; lamplighters, for services; Christopher Byrne, for newspapers; R Foley, for ironmongery; Edward Martin, for brushes, brooms and mops; and F Devoy, for bags of chips. Also contains copy of affidavit sworn by Keck to the validity of the accounts, before William Logan, justice of the Peace, 18 August 1827.

Memorial of 210 men, 100 women and 150 children aboard the ‘Independence’ at Kinsale, [County Cork], bound for St John, New Brunswick, [Canada], to [Richard] Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, seeking relief to enable them to proceed on their journey. State they have been waiting on and around the ship for over a fortnight, ‘and have been compelled to consume most of their stock of potatoes, which they laid in for the voyage and has not the means of laying in any more’, and request relief before they are due to sail on 10 June 1827. Signed in testimony to the truth of this account by the ship’s master, John Stobo, and RH Reardon.
