Memorial on behalf of Catherine Stairs, orphan, and signed by [Lt Col] George Morris, Governor of the House of Industry, Dublin, stating that this case is ‘deserving of the humane consideration of Government’. States Stairs’ father served in the army for 14 years, and that 6 years ago, her mother died and her father went to work as a porter in the Bedford Asylum, House of Industry, until his death on 22 January 1827, which left her ‘without Parent or friend, destitute in the World, at the early age of Nine Years’. States that she is ‘an interesting child’, and requests that she be permitted to remain at Bedford Asylum ‘to be trained to habits of industry and Morality and thereby receive food.’ |
